What is XML used for?
XML is used whenever organization is important. Because XML facilitates intelligent searching, and because it enables flexible redefinition of appearance, it’s become the new standard for publishing on the Web, replacing HTML. But because it’s platform and media independent, it’s also become the new standard for other forms of traditional and electronic publication. Effectively, XML is replacing SGML for these applications.
XML makes communication easy. It’s a great tool for transactions between businesses. XML is used to aid the exchange of data by making it possible to define data in a clear way. Both the sending and the receiving party will use XML to understand the kind of data that’s been exchanged—by using XML, everybody knows that the same interpretation of the data is used. For several years, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) has been the way to exchange data between businesses. EDI is expensive because it uses a dedicated communication infrastructure, and the definitions used are far from flexible. XML is a good replacement for EDI because it uses the Internet for the data exchange and it’s very flexible. Also, a growing number of programs, such as Microsoft Office, now store data in XML format and can easily export this data, allowing it to be used and reused on websites. In addition to the exchange of data, we can define other languages with XML. A good example is Wireless Markup Language (WML)
Hello I hope you all are well! It is two months that I have learned xml and I rarely used it. The reason that I have rarely used it,is that I really don’t know exactly what it is used for. I want to have overview about the usage of xml. I would be happy if any one of my friends help me in this case and tell me some of its usages. By the way I’m a computer engineering students and I can’t make head or tails of commercial activities if you want to tell me some usages of xml in them.
