Symptoms can vary greatly ranging from an intermittent dull ache in the middle back associated with general lethargy and fatigue to acute renal colic. In the latter the patient experiences a sudden onset of pain in the back, abdomen or groin or all of the above. The pain is usually intermittent in nature and can be so severe as to make the patient double over in pain. Classically, the patient is unable to keep still because of the pain. Feelings of nausea and vomiting may accompany the pain and the patient may notice blood in the urine. What is the treatment for renal stones?
