What is Presorted mail?
Presort is a process by which mail is prepared so that it is zip sorted to the finest extent required by the post office and the rate claimed. This form of mail preparation required to bypass certain postal operations in which the mailer groups pieces in a mailing by zip codes , by carrier route, or carrier walk sequence or other USPS recommended separation.
Presorted Mail receives a mailing discount. Requirements: • 500 pieces or more addressed mail • Each piece must have a complete address with correct Zip Code or Zip+4 code. • Each piece must be marked “Presorted First-Class.” • Mail must be in trays for processing. • Call University Mail Services for exact rates for presorted mail.
Presort Mail is mail that has been manually sorted by zip code, before presented to the Post Office. Presort Automation mail is bar-coded and sorted by state and zip code before being delivered to the Post Office or airport.
