What is the Validation Disk for?

When you have too much data in the View Results page, you can choose to archive the data. This will remove it from the View Results but allows you to store it as a database file. During the archive, you will be asked if you mind sending a copy back to UCLES so the validation team can monitor that you are receiving the best quality test. The file can either be sent by email or by sending the file on the supplied Validation Disk. See User Manual page 44.

Validation is required for databases created and maintained with Reference Manager Version 6 or older. Validation is no longer required for Reference Manager Version 7. The new licensing policy effective with Reference Manager Version 7 allows you to create multiple databases (of up to 65,000 references each), as long as the Reference Manager program is installed on only one computer (previous versions of Reference Manager allowed you to install the program on any number of computers, but you were only allowed to create and maintain one large (up to 65,000 references) validated database. To understand what the Validation Disk is for, you must first understand the Reference Manager License Agreement. The license agreement accompanying Reference Manager (for Versions 5.5 and 6) entitles you to create a main database containing 65,000 references, and unlimited smaller databases of up to 200 references each.
