Yes, Elliot Hospital is home to Manchesters designated Level 2 Trauma Center. Trauma is a surgical specialty that is vastly different from routine emergency care. Hospital emergency rooms are equipped to treat everything from a headache to a heart attack. A trauma center, such as Elliots, treats everything that an emergency room would treat, plus it can handle life or limb threatening injuries that other hospitals emergency rooms are not equipped to manage. Elliots Trauma Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. To receive the status of “Trauma Center,” a hospital must meet strict standards established by the State of New Hampshire Department of Health, based on the guidelines of the American College of Surgeons.
