What is an Individual Learning Plan?
In this age of ongoing career management, an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) provides a focused structure for planning and working towards your professional development and learning goals; it’s like a map of the path you need to take to get to where you want to go in your career. When you come to Mencap National College you will learn skills that will help you live more independently – both at college and after you leave. The big things that you want to do when you leave college are called your long-term goals. For example, you might want to live in a house with a friend and work in catering. During the first part of your course at college we will work with you to find out what you are good at and what things you need to work on to help you reach your long-term goals. Your personal tutor and other staff will help you make a plan to help you achieve your long-term goals. A plan is important because it tells you where you are going and what you need to do to get there. It also helps you and the college to see how much you learn and achieve while you are here. This plan is called your Individual Learning Plan or ILP.
