How Do You Use Cream Of Tartar?
Cream of Tartar is an acid salt used often in cooking, and is an ingredient in most baking powders. It is obtained from the sediment produced from making wine. Use Cream of Tartar to stabilize and add volume to beaten egg whites. 1/8th of a teaspoon per egg white is a good amount. Cream of Tartar can be used to prevent the formation of sugar crystals, and is often used when making sugary candy and frosting allowing for a creamy, non grainy, texture. In a pinch, you can use lemon juice or vinegar as a substitute for Cream of Tartar. You can use Cream of Tartar and Baking Soda as a substitute for Baking Powder. Cream of Tarter also has many uses around the house. Use Cream of Tarter and lemon juice to remove ink from clothing. Mix Cream of Tartar with water, or vinegar, to clean pots and pans as well as shine copper and brass.
