How Do You Vent A Hot Water Tank?
Venting a hot water tank is mandatory, and the venting installation must pass city inspection. This means it must be vented through the ceiling, attic and roof. Check local building codes for information on the type and size of vent pipe required as well as acceptable caps on the pipe on the roof. Cut a hole in the ceiling where the vent pipe will go through into the attic with a drill and a hole saw. Place the draft hood on top of the water heater where the vent hole is located. Secure enough of the vent pipe together with the screws provided to slip through the hole in the ceiling and rest on top of the draft hood. Climb into the attic and locate where the vent pipe comes through the ceiling. Connect enough pipes to reach the rafters with the screws provided. Stop when you are close to the roof line. Cut a hole in the roof for the vent pipe to go through. Cut a piece of pipe with tin snips long enough to stick through the roof about 3 inches. Secure it to the end of the pipe just ins
