What is an Open MRI exam like?
If you are claustrophobic or anxious when placed in a confined place and are sensitive to loud noises, the Siemens Open MRI is for you. This machine is open on three sides to give you the feeling of unobstructed space in a relaxed atmosphere. During your exam, the technologist will place a device called a coil over the body part to be scanned. You will hear some rhythmic tapping noises that are normal during the operation of the magnetic scanner. Earplugs will be available if you wish to use them. It is best to wear comfortable clothes such as sweats if possible. You may be asked to change into a gown to avoid possible interference from zippers, snaps, or buckles. You will be asked to remove eye-glasses, watch, jewelry, dentures or partial plates, hearing aids, and any other metallic objects you are carrying.
