KB: Roy Bryant and J. W. Milam passed away in the 80’s and 90’s. However, five people are still alive and could be indicted and charged for Emmett’s murder. T: How did your documentary prompt the Emmett Till’s case to be reopened? KB: The Emmett Till Case was reopened with the help of my documentary and research on the case. I found that more people participated in the murder and was never charged with the crime. After this discovery, I met with federal officials, and was able to lobby city councils, members of Congress and the public behind my efforts that ultimately led to the reopening. T: Why did Mamie Till Mobley leave her son’s casket open during his funeral? What was the subtext behind that action? KB: There were many murders of young blacks during the 1950’s, but what sets the Till Case from all the others was the courageous decision of the late Mrs. Mamie Till Mobley.
