Whats hypertufa?
Hypertufa has an interesting history. By the early 1900s, gardeners knew that old stone horse watering troughs made rustic planters. In the south of England the troughs were made with a porous limestone rock called tufa (two-fa). When tufa troughs became scarce, resourceful gardeners developed “hypertufa”. The traditional recipe is 1 part Portland cement, 1 part sand, and 1 part peat moss.
