How Do You Raise A Shower Drain?
Shower drains connect to your home’s sewage system and carry away all the water runoff from your shower. They are usually mounted in the center of the shower stall, where the floor is depressed slightly, which makes for better drainage. If you find yourself remodeling your shower with new tiles, it sometimes makes more sense to simply lay the new tile over the existing tile. In this case, you’ll need to raise your shower drain so that it is flush with the new floor again. Measure the size of your drain plate, and note it on paper. Purchase a drain extender kit of the same size as your drain plate. Unscrew the two screws holding the shower drain plate in place. Set these aside. Clean any soap or mildew residue from around the drain with a strong household cleaner or bleach and rags. Allow to dry. Install the rubber washer by lining it up with the edges of the drain pipe.
