What is Good Sam?
The Good Samaritan Fund or Good Sam Fund was created in 1988 to assist residents of Pinecrest with financial aid for their daily care. The Fund gets its name from the parable in the Bible about the generous and caring man from Samaria whom our Lord called the good neighbor. He was a kind and decent person who offered aid to a wounded stranger even though the stranger could give nothing in return. Recipients of Good Samaritan Fund assistance are Pinecrest residents who have outlived their personal financial resources. Currently, over half of our resident population receives financial assistance from the Good Samaritan Fund. The charitable care given by Pinecrest each year is approximately $26,660.00 per resident, or almost $1.8 million per year. There are four major Good Samaritan Fund events organized each year, including a bowling benefit, a banquet in Elgin, Illinois, a golf play day, and a dinner theatre.
