Why use OziExplorer?
All the big maps-included SW options are fine when you’re in the USA. If you are in Africa (like me) or in China (I’ll be next year) and you need to scan a paper map or use GoogleEarthPro images and then calibrate them, OZI is a great tool. Last year I scanned a good paper map of Sicily, and we drove thru mountain roads and small villages, with Ozi and GPS on a Thinkpad and we always knew where we were. My GoogleEarth compilation of Northern Tunisia shows my GPS track running down one lane of the (only) Superhighway, and back the other… So, there are some DIY reasons some times. But I sure don’t have 10,000 plus points of interest already logged in! And the nearest McDonald’s is probably in Rome…
