Why should bus operators convert their diesel to CNG?
The most practical answer is the price of diesel fuel. CNG shall be priced cheaper than the pump price of diesel. Further, having CNG as the primary fuel of the buses eliminates the reported and alleged illegal siphoning of diesel from the fuel tanks of these buses. The other answer is that it makes a lot of sense to helping create a cleaner Mega Manila, and in helping minimize air pollution to comply with the Clean Air Act of 1999 (Republic Act 8749). The interesting answer is that bus operators can avail of special incentives and various other advantages when they switch to CNG. Some of these incentives are related to the franchise licenses issued by the LTFRB (Land Transport Franchise and Regulatory Board), and for the first 200 units, there are duty-free incentives and tax holiday privileges if bus operators participate in the pilot program.
