Who is Tate?
PJ Ransome: Tate is a character that is an amalgam of a few non-fiction characters. I tend to see him as one of the Menendez brothers, and their behavior at home over the years leading to their demise absolutely could not have been normal. So I had to make this person completely fueled by rage, but a rage that he had to completely believe in, without a single moral question in his mind, y’know, not concerned with consequences. What was your experience like making “Ken Park”? PJR: Absolutely fucking crazy. It was the first time I had ever been to the west coast, so I didn’t really know too many people out there, and I am such a fucking space cadet in terms of my sensitivity to new geography, and I had to separate my new experiences from actually making the film.
