Is dippy duck a perpetuum mobile?
Well, kind of. The real perpetuum mobile is impossible due the laws of physics and thermodynamics, however for centuries people have been trying to make it work. Dippy duck’s movement comes from the temperature difference due to evaporation of water from the duck’s wet head. This causes the temperature at the head to become less than the temperature of the body and causes the liquid inside to condense and become heavy.
