How Does a Weed Whacker Work?
The Engine The engine of the weed whacker powers the device–it can be gas or electric. Electric models use their electrical supply to power the engine and require no priming. Gas types use a primer button that squirts fuel into the engine to jump-start the motor from a cold start. The Pulley The string pulley attached to gas models, when pulled, works like a toy spin top to get the spinning motion of the engine going. And the off switch cuts the supply of gas or electricity to the engine to shut it down. The Shaft The hollow tube connecting the motor to the cutting head houses the drive shaft. The engine transfers the power that it generates down the spinning drive shaft to the head of the trimmer. Cutting Head The cutting head uses the power generated by the engine and sent down the drive shaft to spin the head. The intensely spinning mono filament string acts as a cutting blade to trim weeds and tall grass. The String The string will break. And when the string does break, tapping th
