What Does Brazen Mean?
Brazen is an adjective and is used to mean bold and shameless. Something which is marked by insolent audacity is said to be brazen. Brazen also means a loud or harsh sound which resonates. Example: the brazen resonance of sword fights. A brazen act shocks people and the person who commits such an act is not ashamed of it. In literary sense, brazen is to have a gleaming yellow colour. This word has its origin in Middle English and Old English. In the former, it was used as ‘brasen’ and in the latter, it was bræsen. This word meant ‘made from brasses. Other words that can be used as synonyms are: assuming, assumptive, audacious, boldfaced, brash, cheeky, contumelious, familiar, forward and overconfident. For example, when someone brazens something out; that person deals with a matter that is tricky or embarrassing. He faces the situation by appearing to be confident and does not disgrace himself.
