What are chemical peels used for?
The greatest benefit of superficial peels is in reducing and controlling two common skin problems: pigmentation and acne. But peels are also great for maintaining the health and appearance of normal skin. Over the course of several superficial peel treatments, a gradual improvement will occur in the your skin, as uneven pigmentation and/or acne decreases. You may also notice an improvement in texture with reduction of fine lines. Your skin will feel smoother and look brighter or clearer, because much of the stratum corneum has been removed. Deeper peels are used to reduce significant acne scarring and deep wrinkles. Deeper peels aren’t common any more. Laser resurfacing has largely replaced them, because the depth of injury can be more precisely controlled with lasers. The rest of this page will discuss only superficial chemical peels.
