Is My Leupold Scope Counterfeit?
Imagine purchasing what appeared to be a Leupold scope through an online sale, having to return the scope to the Leupold repair facility in Beaverton, OR to learn that the scope you bought is actually a imitation! Unfortunately, according to Leupold customer service, this is happening more and more. Most of the known imitation models are copies of the ever popular Mark 4 series. If you aren’t familiar with the Mark 4, it’s Leupold’s most popular long range and tactical sniper rifle scope. Further review by Leupold seems to pinpoint the counterfeit scopes arising out of Hong Kong and China. With one or two exceptions, nearly all the counterfeit models were purchased through some online marketplace, although Leupold decided not to name any specific venues. My guess would be that the sales probably originated on venues like Ebay or through online auction sites like Gunbroker.
