How Do You Remove Gum From Denim?

0

Chewing gum has a tendency to end up where it is least welcome, sometimes on the bottom of shoes but also on the knees of denim jeans. The latter happens often to children and those who sit at desks in a classroom setting because of gum stuck under the tables. Removing gum from denim is best done as soon as possible, before the gum has had a chance to dry or work deeper into the denim fibers. Peel away as much of the gum as possible with a butter knife or other dull instrument. Try not to spread the gum as you peel it off. Heat a bowl of vinegar in the microwave for 1 to 2 minutes until the vinegar is hot but not boiling. Dip the nylon brush into the vinegar, and begin scrubbing the gum. Continue dipping and scrubbing until most of the gum is removed. You may need to reheat the vinegar if it cools down. Dip the nylon brush into liquid laundry detergent, and scrub the stain. That will remove any staining or gum residue left in the denim. Scrub against the grain of the denim.
