How Do You Make Mixed Fruit Jam?
For this recipe, you will be mixing peaches and plums! Some fruits mix very well together, while others don’t. Fresh peaches and fresh plums make a wonderful mix that I call “Peachy Plum,” and it is truly one of my family’s favorites. This one disappears quickly once I make a batch or two! Like all my jams, this one is also a low-sugar recipe, and contains no preservatives or chemicals like the store-bought jams. Before you start, take your clean mason jars without their lids and rings, place them on your oven rack and turn on the oven to about 200 degrees F, just to warm the jars. You will need an equal amount of fresh peaches, preferably ripe as opposed to really firm, and black plums that are ripe. The ripeness also helps dictate the sweetness of your jam! You will probably need about 25 or so of the small sized black (Stanley) plums, and about 4 large peaches. This should pan out to about 6 1/2 cups tightly packed once you’ve cleaned, pitted and chopped the fruit into small chunks.
