Cleaning the drapes will also remove odors and add to their longevity. Remove the drapes from the rod. Shake them outside to remove dirt and dust. Remove loose particles with a vacuum cleaner. Use a brush attachment to vacuum the drapes weekly to keep them clean. Gently run the brush attachment over the drapes. Clean the brush attachment after each use to prevent adding dirt and dust to the drapes. Clean synthetic fabrics with cool water. Tumble-dry them, using low heat, and remove them from the dryer immediately to prevent wrinkles. Take dry-clean only draperies to the dry cleaner instead of washing them yourself.
