Why does AAPG use cookies?
All programs you run on your computer… your word processor, spreadsheet, your favorite game, or whatever… have something in common. Each of them has the privilege of storing values in memory and reading them back later. If you type “It was a dark and stormy night” into your word processor, and then switch over to your email program and email someone about the best-seller you have just started writing, and then switch back to your word processor, the word processor still knows what kind of night it was. The Web does not work that way; although your Web browser can do that, the Web pages you are viewing using your browser cannot. (Think of it this way: your TV knows what channel you’re watching, but Channel 6 does not know if you are watching their station or not). The server software that is sending you the Web pages does not know who you are or anything about you until you identify yourself, and without further help, only the single page that you send your information to has any ac
