What is Computer Aided Translation?
A CAT tool is a software program that creates a work environment that is more compatible with the functions specific to translation and DTP activities and helps translators (without, of course, substituting for them and their professionalism) by offering numerous benefits: • consistency of terminology: the system allows a specific terminology database to be produced and updated. Approved terms are automatically highlighted and accompanied by the corresponding translation within a specific window. It can also be used by a team of translators who are working simultaneously on the same document, thereby helping to maintain perfect consistency of terminology. • maintaining of original formatting: a special interface in the program “hides” the formatting and style codes used by the DTP program that generated the document and separates images.
