What is T9 predictive text technology? How does it work & what are its benefits to mobile users?
Multi-tap –aka ABC or Alpha mode. Prior to T9 technology, typing messages on a mobile phone required this method for entering text. Using multi-tap, you enter a letter by repeatedly pressing a key until the letter you want appears. For example, to enter an “s”, press the 7 key four times. To enter “x”, press the 9 key twice. To delete a letter, press the CLEAR or BACK key. To enter two or more letters that use the same key (such as “spr”), wait until the cursor moves to the right after typing the first letter. T9 Text Input –aka T9, Predictive Text, or T9 Word mode. With T9, you press each key only one time per letter just like you do on a PC keyboard! It is a much faster and more fun way to enter text. For example, when you press the keys, “4 | 3 | 5 | 5 | 6” the T9 software finds all the words that can be spelled with the sequence of keys and lists them with the words you are most likely to want appearing higher on the list.
