Should I get a 14 day Japan Rail pass?

I think a 14-day pass is too expensive if all you’re going to need it is for Kyoto and back. If you get a 7-day pass and it expires on the 7th day from the time you activated it, just make sure you do your Kyoto trip within that 7 days. 7 day pass is around $280, 14 day pass is more than $400. 7 day pass will cover your Kyoto shinkansen trip expense. If you buy the 14-day, it doesn’t give you value for money. Even if you pay for the Narita express going back to the airport and your other train tickets after the JR expires, it’s still good value.
