What is a “Branded” title?
A 7″ X 8″ Kansas title that has message printed across the top between the border and the words “STATE OF KANSAS” is a branded title. The branding is a statement of a preexisting condition of the vehicle or title status. Kansas has the following brands on their title: Repossession, Motor Exchange, Body Exchange, Specially Constructed (for assembled vehicle), Recreational Vehicle, Manufactured/Mobile Home, Duplicate, Secured, Reissued, Salvage, Rebuilt Salvage, Nonhighway and Formerly Nonhighway. An 8.5″ X 11″ Kansas title will have the same message printed along the right side of the title just below the mileage and date information. Kansas issues a special (pink color) title that denotes a vehicle as nonrepairable.
If you have had an accident with your vehicle and the damage exceeds $8,000 or 40 percent of the total value (this does not include hail or normal wear and tear), the law requires that you report this when you sell or trade the vehicle. The vehicle title is then marked to show that it was previously damaged.
