Sucker fish belong to the Catostomidae family. This fish is characterized by its cylindrical shape along with downward-pointing suckering mouth and the presence of single row teeth in their pharynx. Most of the species of the sucker fishes are found in North America and Central America. Few of them are also found in eastern Siberia and eastern China. The suckers are generally found in flowing waters such as streams and rivers, but some of them can also be born in still water such as pond. They can be 6.6ft length at their maximum. Male suckers are smaller in size than that of female suckers. Their feeding mostly depends on aquatic invertebrates or aquatic vegetation. There are many varieties of suckers – common of them is white sucker, scientifically known as Catostomus commersoni, mostly found in North and Central America. Redfin Sucker is another species, scientifically known as Moxostoma macrolepidotum, found in central North America.
