why are Betas called fighting fish?”
I haven’t dabbled in tropical fish for many years, but I remember the Siamese Fighting Fish well. They are valued for their beautiful fins and tails. They are easy to keep, because they live in fairly stagnant water. If you put to males together they will fight to the death. Well, even a male and female for that matter. I remember mating them as well. This has been many many years, but as I remember it, I would put a male and female side by side in small glass bowls so that they could see one another. Eventually the male would begin building a bubble nest in his bowl. He would go to the surface and blow bubbles which would stick together and it grows larger and larger. When I was satisfied the bubble nest was of sufficient size I would put the female in the tank with the female. The male would wrap his body around the females body to squeeze the eggs out, and then catch them in his mouth before they fell to the bottom of the bowl, and go up and spit them into the bubble nest.
