The Iron Rod comes from a couple of chapters in the Book Of Mormon. These are revelations that were given first to the prophet Lehi and then to his son Nephi. In these revelations, Lehi and Nephi are shown a tree whose fruit is desirable above all things. The iron rod runs along the narrow path that leads to this tree. A mist of darkness covers the path so that the only way to stay on it is to hold onto the iron rod. If the people don’t hold to the rod, then they will get lost in the mists of darkness. The tree represents God’s love for us and the promise of Eternal Life. The path is the path that leads us back to the presence of God. The mists of darkness are the temptations and distractions of the world that blind men and lead them away from the path. The iron rod is the word of God (i.e. the scriptures) that tell us what we are supposed to do to get back to God. So, by holding fast to the iron rod, we will stay on the path that leads us back into the presence of God and to eternal l
