It is very possible for the dog to live as long as the vet said it will. Typically, the smaller the dog, the longer its possible life span. However, this is an ideal situation. Provided the dog has had good nutrition, appropriate exercise, and moderate to low stress, they can definitely live a long healthy life. Diseases such as heartworm can sometimes reduce the number of years in a dog’s life span. Fourteen pounds is at the higher end of weight for that breed, but if the dog’s structure supports it well and shows no sign of stress on the joints, then it isn’t a problem and still within the range of normal and healthy.
