Reusing screws in drywall is economical but requires care when working with your drywall. You may need to remove a section of drywall for a variety of reasons including getting access to water pipes or electrical wiring or having to reinsulate a cold spot. When you do need to take a piece of wallboard down, the more careful you are in removing the screws the easier it will be to reassemble the wall once you are finished with the project. Inspect the wallboard around the screws. If there is plaster or a patch covering any screws, it will need to be removed. Use a small putty knife to carefully scrape away the plaster. Do not scrape beyond the head of the screw to avoid any damage to the drywall. Remove the screw with either a hand drill or handheld Phillips screwdriver. If using a hand drill, turn the switch to reverse and depress the button lightly. If working by hand, twist counterclockwise slowly and steadily.
