How Do You Set Up For Tig Welding?
Welding is a great process for both creating and repairing metal objects. TIG welding in particular is very clean and precise, making it the best choice for exacting work. As with any welding process, proper setup will produce the best results. Set up the TIG welder in a well-lighted, uncluttered work space that is free of flammable materials. If the work is small, a metal welding table should be used. A table provides a platform on which the work can be set up and clamped in place. The ground may also be attached to the table, making it easier to position the work. Have an ABC fire extinguisher nearby. Inspect the tungsten tip to be sure that it is clean and is ground to a dull point—regrind if necessary. Connect the torch to the machine (connect the gas line if it’s separate). Connect the remote foot pedal (controls the power). Check the polarity switch—normally it will be set to DC for steels and AC for aluminum.
