As with any welding process, proper setup will produce the best results. Set up the TIG welder in a well-lighted, uncluttered work space that is free of flammable materials. If the work is small, a metal welding table should be used. A table provides a platform on which the work can be set up and clamped in place. The ground may also be attached to the table, making it easier to position the work. Have an ABC fire extinguisher nearby. Inspect the tungsten tip to be sure that it is clean and is ground to a dull point—regrind if necessary. Connect the torch to the machine (connect the gas line if it’s separate).
