What is a Cockroach?
There are about 4,000 species of Cockroach, of which 30 species are associated with human habitations and about four species are well known as pests with two of these being the most well known in the United States: The German Cockroach – Blattella Germanica – adults are 1/4 to 5/8 of an inch long, are a light brown to tan in color and have a pair of dark lengthwise stripes on the outer body. Due to a simple metamorphic process, the young Cockroach closely resembles the adult. A pregnant female can hold as many as 40 eggs in her egg and can produce as many as three to four generations per year. As with most insect pests, the Cockroach is a prolific breeder. The American Cockroach – Periplaneta Americana – occurs both indoors and outdoors. Adults are reddish-brown in color with light colored edges to the body.
