A cinder block pit is the perfect answer to fire safety when traveling from campground to campground. Makeshift stone fire pits are OK, if stones are available. But to be certain of a safe and satisfying campfire every time, carry cinder blocks and spend a few minutes building a cinder block pit wall whenever a fire is needed.
