If you have symptoms of an ulcer, describe them to your health care provider. He or she may ask you to take antacids or another medication to see if the symptoms go away. He or she may also take an X-ray or use a device called an endoscope to look at the inside of the stomach and duodenum. The endoscope, a flexible tube, is inserted down the throat and into the stomach.
