Who is eligible to apply for a grant?
Professional artists in one of the above artistic fields (e.g. published writers, visual artists, musicians) may apply. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada. The Canada Council defines a professional artist as someone who has specialized training in the field (not necessarily in academic institutions), who is recognized as such by her or his peers (artists working in the same artistic tradition), and who has a history of public presentation or publication. Artists who are awarded a Canada Council grant will be required to devote a substantial portion of their time to their program of work during the period of the grant. Professional artists are divided into three categories: emerging, mid-career and established. The criteria for these categories differ from one artistic discipline to the next and are listed in each grant program document. Any organisation can apply, provided they have a bank or building society account in the name of the organisation. Voluntary sports clubs and organisations, even newly formed organisations, are expected to have an acceptable constitution or set of rules. Where this is not the case, they will be asked to demonstrate on the application form how their club is organised and managed. (a) An LEA or consortia of LEAs is eligible to receive assistance under this part if the LEA or consortia of LEAs meets any of the following requirements: (1) The LEA or consortia of LEAs is implementing a plan undertaken pursuant to a final order of a court of the United States, or a court of any State, or any other State agency or official of competent jurisdiction, and the order requires the desegregation of minority group segregated children or faculty in the elementary and secondary schools of that agency or those agencies. (2) The LEA or consortia of LEAs adopted and is implementing on either a voluntary basis or as required under title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964or will adopt and implement if assistance is made available under this parta plan that has been approved by the Secretary as adequate under title VI. (b) The Secretary approves a voluntary plan under paragraph (a)(2) of this section only if he determines that for each magnet school for which funding is sought (1)
(a) Persons eligible. Any individual, corporation, public or private institution or agency, or other legal entity shall be eligible for a grant award, except: (1) An individual or entity which is otherwise ineligible for an award under applicable law or regulation; (2) Federal agencies or institutions, unless specifically authorized by law to receive the grant; or (3) Individuals, corporations, institutions, agencies, and other entities during the period they are debarred or suspended from eligibility for Federal financial assistance (see 45 CFR part 76).
