You probably know the Stevenson is a parking lot in the mornings, and you’re looking for a better route. I don’t know if it would be much of a help, but you could try to take Renwick Road/9th St. east through Lockport and pick up Route 171 just across the river. You can take that all the way to Archer Avenue, around Midway Airport, and that will take you most of the way to UIC. There are also several opportunities to get onto the Stevenson from that route, including the new 355 extension. Google Maps provides near-real time traffic information for the expressways, so you might look to see what your best options would be at the times you want to commute. Sadly, rapid growth in the Plainfield-Joliet area over the last few years has made commuting from there a mess. Short of buying a helicopter, your best bet might be to upgrade your car stereo and invest in some good tunes to listen to while sitting in traffic.
