Whether you are strapped for cash or just want to feel good about yourself and your carbon footprint, recycling some everyday items can be a quick fix. Usually, recycling won’t make you a ton of cash, but it could give you some extra spending money. Take off your cans. Many recycling companies won’t pay for plastic bottles or paper (depending on how much you have and what state you live in), but most any recycling center takes cans and pays you for them. Call ahead to recycling centers or junk yards to make sure they pay for cans. If several places in your area trade cans for cash, ask the price they pay to make sure you get the most value for your junk. These centers also may take scrap metal from old tools, machines and electronics. Go through your closet. Get rid of whatever clothes you don’t–or can’t–wear anymore in
