What is vestibulitis?
Vestibulitis is a skin condition affecting the glands surrounding the opening to the vagina called the vestibular glands. Symptoms can include itching, burning, stinging, rawness, aching, soreness, and/or throbbing. Sometimes the symptoms are only mild and resolve by avoiding the cause while other women can experience chronic, severe symptoms including painful intercourse. The cause of vestibulitis can vary and includes chemical irritants like soaps, deodorants, and propylene glycol; sexual contact or a history of abuse; tight clothing like thongs and tight jeans; bicycle riding; and any activity that increases pressure on the vulvae.
