Are advil and motrin the same?
Yes. The active ingredient for both is Ibuprofen, but be careful about the dosage. Prescription strength Motrin is usually 800 mg. which is equivalent to four 200 mg. Advil. If you’re using over the counter Motrin, it is the same as Advil (200 mg.). While you can take up to four Advil or OTC Motrin at a time, two or three are usually effective and you should always take the smallest effective dose and only take for as long as you absolutely need it. All NSAID’s can cause stomach irritation, especially if used in large doses or for long periods of time.
