How Do You Flush A Steam Boiler?
Flushing a steam boiler removes the brown water and sediments from your heating system. It is conducted as part of routine maintenance. If you have a float-type low water cut off boiler, you need to flush it as often as once a month or whenever the water looks rusty. Review the overall functioning of your boiler to see that everything is working properly. Use a checklist and inspect it often. Find information on a check list at the AIG Insurance website. Check the glass “meter” to see if the water looks rusty. Make sure your boiler is turned off to avoid burns or other injuries. Place a large bucket below the spigot to catch the water you will drain off. Open the spigot at the bottom of the boiler. Let the water drain until it runs clear. You may have to empty the bucket before the water runs clear.
