Why use a bamboo steamer?
We are told that bamboo is ideal for steaming, because it absorbs moisture and prevents condensation from dripping on the food. This is true because when I lift the top lid exposing the string beans or whatever vegetables I may be cooking, they are never soggy, but are quite tender. I love steaming broccoli because the texture is firm but not dripping wet, and the flavor of these veggies is retained. I love serving particularly green vegetables with freshly squeezed lemon juice. (My mouth is watering just typing this.) Food also will stay warm in the covered steamer up to a half hour. Actually, more and during that time it does not overcook. This is really the best way to go when implementing a healthy lifestyle. The fact that cooking food by this method requires no fats yet delivers something that is delicious in terms of taste and texture I think would help those looking to shed a few pounds to stay on the right path as far as weight loss.
