How Do You Put On An Applique?
Applique is the art of cutting and designing decorative images from a variety of colored and textured material and sewing or fusing, them to a larger piece of material such as, a wall hanging or quilt square. These delightful creations can be as simple as a one piece design cut from fabric to multiple pieces that fit together to create a complete image. There are several techniques to applique, but the easiest is to use fusible web to hold them in place while completing the decorative stitching that makes applique so appealing. Choose a background fabric that is solid or has a fine print. Cotton fabric is the easiest to work with. Most quilters prefer to work with 100% cotton fabric. Be sure to wash and dry your material first to minimize shrinkage in the completed project. Using material that has not been preshrunk by laundering may cause individual pieces to shrink or stretch out of shape when the project is washed.
