What are electronic journals?
An electronic journal, or an e-journal, is simply a journal which may be accessed electronically, usually via the World-Wide Web. The term includes both e-only journals, for which there is no print equivalent, and e-versions of print journals. Some e-journals are freely available, but most are available only to subscribers in the same way as print journals. E-journals may be accessed via their publishers’ sites, or via so-called aggregators such as Ingenta and Ebsco Host. There are also full-text databases which contain the full text of articles and may therefore be said to be e-journal collections. Most of the e-journals available to staff and students of this University are listed in the Library Catalogue and in this website.
