What type of volcano is Yellowstone?
The Yellowstone National Park volcano is a Caldera volcano, also known as a Super Volcano due to the immense eruption they are capable of. The last time the Yellowstone Super Volcano erupted it spewed as much as 8000 times as much ash and lava than Mount St Helens in 1980. The Caldera, or crater, of this Super Volcano is about 1500 square miles as compared to Mount St Helens crater which is about 2 square miles.
