How Do You Wean A Breastfed Baby?
Whether you are weaning out of necessity, or are just ready to stop breastfeeding, these tips can help make it a smooth transition for both you and baby. Wean your baby gradually if that is possible. Sudden weaning can be difficult not only for your baby, but also for you, because your milk will still come in. Eliminating one or two feedings at a time for a week or so will help make the process easier for both of you. When you first introduce formula, or milk if the baby is one year or older, be patient. Your baby might take to drinking it right away with no problem, but some children don’t like the taste or texture at first, and may resist, especially if they are not used to using a bottle. Start with a half bottle or so and see how that goes. Start replacing breast feedings with bottle feedings one at a time. With older children, you can also completely eliminate some feedings all together. As children get older, they need less milk, especially after they begin to eat solid food. Man
