what is a cookie and how does it work?
A ‘cookie’ is a small piece of information that Heritage Images temporarily stores with your web browser. This enables the server to remember information and tailor the site to your specific needs. Cookies are the most efficient way for web browsers to track and store information. For example, when you assign yourself a username this is stored as a cookie. This allows the browser to bring up all the information that is only relevant to you. We do not store confidential information as a cookie. All confidential information is transmitted to us via our secure server and is stored in our protected database.
Cookies are pieces of information generated by a Web server and stored in the user’s computer, ready for future access. Cookies are embedded in the HTML information flowing back and forth between the user’s computer and the servers. Cookies were implemented to allow user-side customisation of Web information. For example, cookies are used to personalize Web search engines, to allow users to participate in WWW-wide contests, and to store shopping lists of items a user has selected while browsing through a virtual shopping mall. This can make the web more useful for you by storing your preferences for information, even though we may assign a cookie to your browser it will not tell us who you are. So if you reject cookies you will not be able to use certain areas of our site but if you accept them you can receive a more tailored service and still unless you tell us we cannot find out who you are.
Whilst you are visiting us at Tarot-Online.net we temporarily place a tiny file called a ‘cookie’ in the ‘temporary internet folder’ on your computer don’t worry, it doesn’t do anything except hold your own login details and tell our server what they are each time you view one of our pages. this saves you having to log in again every time you click on a link within the site when you close your web browser (the program you use to surf the web) our cookie deletes itself and you have to log in again next time you visit the site if you want to visit the site without needing to log in, or bookmark pages within the site so you can go straight to them (e.g. your favourite reading or your list of readings etc.), then check the ‘remember me’ box and we’ll put a cookie on your computer that stays there even when you close your browser – you can still remove this cookie any time you want by clicking on ‘logout’ from within the site (so don’t logout if you want to use the ‘remember me’ option!
